Natural settings: Between Azpeitia and Legazpi the valley of the river Urola is surrounded by the Izarraitz Natural park and mounts Irukurutzeta (896 m), Irimo (901 m), Izazpi (902 m) and Samiño (933 m).
Cultural heritage: Azpeitia: Historic town centre, Basque Railway Museum and Museum of the Environment. Sanctuary of St. Ignatius of Loyola.
Azkoitia: Historic town centre; Jorge Oteiza pelota courts.
Urretxu: Aikur Bee Museum and Urrelur Museum of Minerals and Fossils. Historic town centre and San Martín de Tours parish church.
Zumarraga: La Antigua chapel and Miguel López de Legazpi tower house.
Legazpi: Mirandaola Park and Mirandaola Ironworks, Basque Museum of Iron, Eco-museum of Grazing, and Rincón del Pan (Bread Corner). Chillida Lantoki Museum.
Infraestructure: Greenway. 5 stations. Azpeitia station, off the route, is home to the Basque Railway Museum. 39 bridges. 19 tunnels with lighting between Zumarraga and Azkoitia (at Loiola there is one more but the trail does not go through it). Benches, signposts, rubbish bins, 10 water fountains and 2 public baths (Zumarraga and Loiola). Street lamps in the Azpeitia-Azkoitia and Aginaga rest area-Legazpi sections. 9 rest areas, 3 play areas and 1 recreational area.
